Class Information

Aerial Days youth classes are for 8 - 17 Year olds in Trapeze, Silks or Hoop. In regular classes, students stay with one skill for the term. The preferred skill choice may depend on availability for that skill in a particular class. Only the Saturday 9.30am class has students rotating around the 3 skills for the term.

New Students for 2024
We suggest the Saturday 9.30-10.30am for beginner students, 8-17 years.

For a single or trial class we release these once the term has started and where we have spaces available.

New Silks Students
Silks in all youth classes are currently full in most classes.
For youth wanting to join a silks class, we ask them to join hoop or trapeze for at least a term, before looking for an available space for them in silks.
We will offer our current students already in that class and on the silks waitlist, an available silks space before new students.
We require all silks students to have upper body strength with proven aerial experience and aerial awareness before considering them for a silks space.

Can you take under 8 years?
No, we don’t take students until they are 8 years old. Once your child is 8 years old we are happy to welcome them to our classes. This policy is for a few reasons.
1. We don’t have enough small equipment to have groups of younger children. We don’t have exclusive use of our venue and our time is limited. So changing equipment for younger students wouldn’t be viable use of our time.
2. Aerial skills has a high health and safety element which younger children may not appreciate and we need more staff to accommodate them.
3.Our youngest class age range is 8-12 years. It can be quite a different learning experience for a 7 and 12 year old. As they can be in the same class, we have found it too challenging for the students and teachers.

Trial classes

Before booking please read this.
Only in regular class do students choose which skill they will focus on between trapeze, hoop, rope or silks. This will be determined by skill availability. The 9.30am class rotates around the skills of Trapeze, Hoop, Silks for the whole term.

Does each student have their own equipment?
We aim to give each young person their own apparatus for the duration of the class. Sometimes we may need to share equipment if we have more students than we were expecting in the class or there is not enough lower apparatus.

Will they change skills in the term?
In regular classes students will stay with the one skill for the term. In the Saturday 9.30am class students rotate around all 3 skills.

Staying with one skill allows development of stronger skills and a deeper understanding of the apparatus. As aerial skills develop, in the later classes, students will learn to create and link moves together. They may learn harder moves, including drops, as well as how to put all the small sequences together to create their own routines.

The Wednesday class, 5.45-6.45pm, is for intermediate aerial students. They focus on one skill, with an expectation of conditioning and stretching at home and focused attention within class. Please contact us for your child’s suitability. Intermediate Aerial students are those who have done at least 2 years aerial and are confident and capable in the air. They will work on more challenging moves and transitions.

End of term showing
In previous terms, at the end of term, we have a non compulsory ‘showing of work’ to allow families to watch an open class of their childs’ aerial skill. We will send an email regarding the precise time. The date will be in your child’s last or 2nd last class of the term.
We give the young people the choice, if they wish to show something to a bigger audience of all the families or not. They may decide they are not showing anything this term and we will support them in their choice.

Parents accompanying students
Please be aware parents and families are not allowed on school premises before 6pm on weekdays due to the child protection policy of the venue (the school) we use. Only if the child is nervous and for the first class can the parent accompany the child into the building but please let us know you are coming. After 6pm and weekends parents may sit in the annex by the gym or in the downstairs courtyard.

We support the bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.
The student (or parent) MUST email info@aerialdays.com and make clear their 3 goals at the beginning of term for the following term. During, and at the end of term these will be evaluated before signing the skills off! Email us for help and advice regarding setting goals.
